Marie J. Lost 51 lbs with the Help of Clean, Low-Carb Eating!

Tell us about your journey to better health…

In my early 40’s, I found myself in a very unhealthy state. I had gained unnecessary weight that was taking a toll on my health, and nothing I tried was working to help me lose it. I had diabetes but wasn’t taking the steps needed to control the disease; In short, I wasn’t eating a clean and healthy diet, and because of that, I was putting my health in grave danger.

By the time I was 49, I was struggling with an extra 50 lbs. on my small, 5’2 frame – and I knew I wanted my 50’s to be different. I wanted to rise above the weight struggles I had in my 40’s, and actually start living life with vigor and excitement again.

I had tried diet programs in the past, but they didn’t work, which I later came to realize was because I needed to make a mental shift before I could see any physical changes. I also needed a solution that I could maintain for the long-term, instead of a “get thin fast” dieting routine.

What motivated you to make a change? 

It was hard enough that I was in the worst health and shape of my life, but the tipping point was the moment I realized that my daughter was choosing the same path as me. When she began her freshman year of college, she started to rapidly gain weight and make unhealthy choices.

After her first semester, I tried to reason with her about making her wellness a priority, and to adopt healthier habits that would make it possible for her to get back to a healthy weight. Instead of being receptive, she told me I couldn’t help her “because I was fat”.

It was a totally heart-breaking comment, but she was right. How could I get across to her the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, when it was the opposite of what I was doing? So, I made a deal with her. I told her I would walk the walk with her, and also lose weight…

Tell us about your success!

I would be lying if I said that losing weight has been incredibly easy for me these last four years – in fact, it’s been a balancing act and major struggle on some days. But, the important thing is that I kept my word to my daughter and myself – I not only lost the weight I wanted to, but I am much happier, and more fulfilled!

How did I get there? While searching for something that would help with my weight loss journey, I came across 310 Nutrition on Facebook. I listened to the CEO, Tim Sharif’s videos on clean eating and started to do some research. I read “The 150 Healthiest Foods” and “The Complete Guide to Intermittent Fasting”, and they really made sense to me. It was then I decided to put my “transformation plan” in place…

In February 2018, I started eating a clean diet, exercising, and having two 310 Shakes per day as meals. I started to lose weight and was elated! In April and May that year, I added the keto diet and intermittent fasting into my routine as well. And by that August, I was down to 116 lbs. from 167 lbs. – losing 51 lbs. and reaching my goal in just 6 months!

The best part is that beyond my weight loss, my health has majorly improved due to my new healthy lifestyle habit changes, and I am no longer diabetic. I’m also very active, whereas I wasn’t in the past. I’ve now run/walked two ½ marathons and I workout every day! I love my new active lifestyle, and 310 is truly the foundation of my new life!

Tell us about your healthy lifestyle routine…

When I began my routine with 310, I was drinking two shakes a day. The difference now is that because I follow a keto diet and also do intermittent fasting, I fit all my important macronutrients and calories into a certain time window each day. I therefore add lots of healthy fats into my shakes, and typically use two scoops of 310 Shake powder per smoothie – for the extra nutrition.

My shake is always a part of my meal, and I typically also add spinach, avocado, and Bai coconut water into it. Because I'm following a keto dietary pattern, I like to keep my daily macronutrients at 70% fats, 20% protein and 10% carbohydrates. This is what works best for me and my higher physical energy levels.

In addition to 310 Shakes, 310 Lemonades have also been essential for me. They’ve helped me kick my Diet Coke habit, and give me something sugar-free that I can drink during my fasted states. While fasting, I only drink water and 310 Lemonades – which are super low in calories and have no artificial sugars. What Do You Love BEST About 310 Shakes?

Here are the ingredients you need to make my Chocolate Chip Cookie 310 Shake…

  • 1/2 scoop 310 Chocolate
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 8 oz. bai coconut water
  • 8 oz. crushed ice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 18 dark chocolate low sugar chocolate chips 

Mix all the ingredients together in a blender and enjoy! 

What does the 310 Community mean to you?

Another aspect of reaching my goal weight that’s been essential to me is the 310 Nutrition Community on Facebook. Having a group of like-minded people who are there to lift and encourage me has been a huge blessing. In fact, I would call it a mainstay to my success!

In the community, I’ve found lots of great information, and motivation to pick myself back up every time I’m fallen off track. It’s a lifeline and a safe place to share and strive towards goals.

Do you have advice for anyone just starting their journey?

My advice for people who are just starting out with 310 is that you need to get yourself in the right mindset before you can actually start making positive changes in your life.

After hitting my goal weight, I’ve faltered a bit. In 2019, a summer car trip vacation caused me to fall off my usual plan. The vacation was followed by girl’s night out with chips, salsa, and margaritas, the holidays, menopause and COVID lockdown. I gained!!! After all my hard work, my weight started to creep up and I ignored it.

Altogether, I gained about 15 lbs. but eventually had a wakeup call and began the process of working my way back to 116 lbs. – and at this point I feel that anything under 120 lbs. is awesome. I’m still healthy, diabetes-free, and living my best life! I know that my shakes, teas and lemonades will help me get back on track and succeed.

The point of my story is the ups and downs. Setbacks, disappointments, restarts all happen but it’s how you respond that determines your life. My life within the success and failures is great.
